Being an Independent Advocate means being a Statesman – not just any ordinary politician. It means striving for higher ideals and being guided by a non-partisan commitment to the common public good.
We The People of the 67th District need and deserve a strong-willed Independent Advocate in our state government – someone who, regardless of ideology, party affiliation or special interest pressures, will identify and fight only for those legislative initiatives that are in the Public Interest.
Based on this vision, I declare that if elected as State Representative I will be a truly Independent Advocate for my constituents. I promise to engage in a new style of pragmatic, non-partisan public service – combining Democratic idealism with Independent politics.
In these difficult times, we can no longer afford to engage in partisan political battles that hinder our ability to meet constituents' needs. Instead, I will support the best ideas and most effective solutions to our problems regardless of who came up with them - be they Republican, Democrat or Independent. I will also work with local business leaders, non-profit & charitable organizations and community groups in our area to develop innovative new ways of meeting the challenges we face – like helping homeowners struggling to pay their mortgages and taxes; supporting parents who are fighting for better schools and a better education system; and giving job seekers that are losing hope the kind of assistance they need in these hard times.
An Independent Advocate always puts the needs of the people first – not the needs of political cronies, big campaign contributors, powerful special interests and their lobbyists. An Independent Advocate shuns the lobbyists, stands up to the special interests and fights only for the good, hard-working people of Florida who don't have the money, access, or the inclination to buy political influence.
While I am a Democrat – proud of our party's ideals and record of achievements, from Social Security to The Civil Rights Act to Medicare, and so much more – know that as your Independent Advocate, I'll do all I can to work across party lines. I'll reach across the aisle to work with Republicans on stabilizing the housing market and lowering homeowners' tax and insurance burdens; on providing more retraining and placement opportunities for the unemployed; on promoting small business growth and rewarding innovation; on mounting fiscally and environmentally sound new energy, growth and development initiatives; on reducing healthcare costs by reforming the insurance industry and passing medical malpractice tort reforms; and most importantly, on eliminating unethical and wasteful government spending.
